Finding the perfect chain length can make all the difference to how your jewellery sits and styles. Whether you’re giving a favourite pendant a fresh new look, choosing a chain for a new charm, or creating a layered necklace style, having a selection of lengths and designs is a jewellery box essential.
The Easiest Way: Measure a Chain You Already Own
Step 1: Unclasp your necklace or chain.
Step 2: Lay it flat on a surface alongside a ruler or measuring tape.
Step 3: Measure the full length and note the measurement in inches or centimetres.
Step 4: Use this measurement as a guide when choosing the length of your next chain.

Men's Chain Length Guide
For men, chain length often comes down to personal style, the look you want to achieve, and whether you’re wearing a pendant or a simple chain on its own.
A 20–22 inch chain is a popular choice for everyday wear, sitting comfortably around the upper chest and working well with both casual and smarter outfits. For a more subtle look, an 18-inch chain sits closer to the neckline.
If you’re layering chains, try combining different lengths to allow each piece to stand out. A shorter chain paired with a longer chain creates a balanced look and helps each piece sit naturally.
Please note: our men’s chain length guide as seen above is based on a model with a 16-inch neck circumference. Chain lengths may sit differently depending on your individual neck size, body shape, and the style or thickness of the chain you choose.
