What is Lapis?

Lapis Lazuli has been used since ancient times, this gemstone is prized for its bright blue colour and its contrast making it irresistible. Lapis is a deep blue metamorphic rock, used as a semi-precious stone. Lapis is a rock composed primarily of the minerals lazurite and calcite.

Where does Lapis come from?

The traditional source of Lapis is in the mountains of Afghanistan. Today Lapis is mined and found in Chile, Siberia and the United States, as well as Canada and Angola. The finest quality of this gemstone has it's origins in northern Afghanistan, in a remote district where ancient mines of this gem exist for thousands of years.

What is the meaning of Lapis?

Lapis is one of the oldest spiritual stones, used by healers, priests and royalty for the use of power, wisdom and to stimulate an inner vision. It is believed to represent truth, wisdom, peace and strength. Wearing this gemstone is thought to release stress and help quiet your racing thoughts as well as helping you fall asleep faster.

How to care for Lapis?

Lapis like most gemstones need extra care. Lapis should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat to avoid any colour change. Lapis gemstones should be cleaned regularly to prevent any build up of dirt and grime, using a soft bristle brush or soft cloth with mild soap and warm water to gently clean your stone. Hard chemicals and cleaners are not suitable for this gemstone as they can cause damage to this semi-precious stone.
