What is Rose Quartz?

Rose quartz, also known as Hyaline Quartz, is the name used for pink specimens of the quartz mineral. The pink colour is thought to be caused by impurities such as titanium, iron or manganese. Most rose quartz crystals are mined in Brazil but it can be found in other places such as Arkansas, Colorado, South Dakota, Maine, Arizona, Virginia, New York, Scotland, England, Canada, Mexico and Australia.

Usually too cloudy to be cut into gemstones (although occasionally found in gem quality), most Rose Quartz is cut into cabochons, beads, or shaped into crystal points.

It is thought that rose quartz was used in jewellery by the Assyrians as early as 800 BC
