What is the difference between a cartilage and lobe piercing?
One of the most frequent questions we get in our high street stores is 'what can I wear in my cartilage piercing?'. So, we've put together these quick guides to cartilage hoops and studs to help you understand the difference between a standard lobe piercing and a cartilage piercing. The main difference being that a lobe piercing is normally made using a smaller gauge (thickness) of bar of 0.8mm, whereas a cartilage piercing is often pierced using a 1.2mm gauge needle. Surgical grade stainless steel (also known as 316L stainless steel) or titanium are most often used to make cartilage jewellery due to the easy to clean nature of these metals as well as their strength and resistance to corrosion.
